Neuro Physiology/Psychology – King’s College Hospital
“How lovely it was to come into work today and see the windows and pictures – they are really spirit-lifting and such an improvement. Thank you for making it happen!”
The Challenge
To address wellbeing concerns after a new infill building 2 metres away not only blocked the beautiful park view and created privacy issues, as windows were overlooked, it reduced natural light too!
Our Response
We worked closely with the Neurophysiology and Neuropsychology teams to address these concerns by applying printed window film to the lower windows of each therapy and work space affected. With the right type of specialist film a view can be created that also improves natural light reflectance – in this case by +20%!
The wellbeing of patients and staff was pivotal, with the key focus on reversing the oppressive feel to one that provides a more conducive work environment for staff and is more settling for patients too. As diagnostics and psychometric tests are often part of patient sessions, less distracting imagery was chosen.
Cheery wall art augmented the scheme throughout, including a windowless room which now boasts blossoms. Entries from the Neurophysiology Team’s photography competition were also selected to uplift the corridors.
Huge thanks to the Friends of Kings Charity who supported this project.
